Caen France 1944

Oil on canvas, 45,5x54,5 cm, 2011. This artwork is part of a series of paintings inspired by photos my grandfather's brother, Kyrre Sørstrøm, returned with from the second world war. It was first presented at the Svolværraidet Memorial Seremony in 2011 at the Lofoten Cultural House commemorating Operation Claymore. In the aftermath of Operation Claymore - a British commando raid against the nazi occupation in Svolvær, Kyrre volunteered to join the British warships returning back to continue their fight for freedom.
