My grandparents

Oil on canvas, 90 x 120 cm, 2016. This is a painting of my grandparents whom I was very close to. They were both hard working, educated and well traveled people, modern for their time. Both were born in 1916 on small farms in Trøndelag. With a drive to become something they went to Oslo before the war. My grandfather was in the Army Officer Training School and my grandmother at the state-owned school educating teachers in female industry (Statens Kvinnelige Industriskole). All through their lives they were active in different unions and charity work, my grandfather being one of the founders of Yrkesorganisasjonenes Sentralforbund. He took part in the defense of Norway in 1940 and died at age 99. I know they got a large part of their strength from their belief in Christianity.
